idle hands is proud to present our first 12” of 2017 from lerosa, a four-tracker beamed across the irish sea to bristol. the ‘subcouture’ ep sees the esteemed producer operating at the intersection of dubby electro and deep house, taking in the sub-heavy frequencies bristol is known for, whilst retaining an agile and sleek simplicity. ‘maryelen’ is a tight, yet pastoral electro track where dreamy pads contrast against tough, cutting drum programming. ‘line bass’ is a tumbling and bouncy number, that doffs its cap to reggae disco and features vibrant synths peppering the mix. ‘scruffy’ takes on a slower and more playful mood, featuring light licks of acid and off kilter keys. ‘subcouture’ is a subtle dubbed out house cut with a hint of shuffle.

the first track, moaning, has a linear feeling at the beginning: a layer of bass lines makes your feet move instantly until some subtle piano sounds come in at the perfect moment. it creates an atmospheric vibe and when the bass kicks in again, everything seems to fall into place. cosmjn’s interpretation is, as expected, more serious and it has a no-nonsense approach: stripped of the melodic piano sounds, a strong bass line takes over, which makes for an interesting contrast to the original track.
if moaning was a more gentle track, fr sa su is a little bit different: dance floor oriented, the rhythm is certainly higher and it has some intriguing background sounds that go hand in hand with the powerful bass that grows on you from the start of the track. the florian meffert remix closes this ep and it goes out on a strong note: it is a complex track with very different elements and sounds that complement each other just right to get things going.

shortly after aussteiger s successful debut on dub disco we knew exactly that we wanted our long time friends s&w on board for our second release. these guys have been a huge influence on us for a long time now. first we fell in love with their eclectic and powerful dj sets and when we heard the demos of these hardware nerds we were truly blown away. when we asked them to produce our second release they handcrafted this ep full of lovely analogue sounds for us. it surely stands in contrast to the first record and by that underlines exactly what dub disco is about: a journey through the vastness of electronic music.

monsieur blue is already getting some keen internet heads casting their theories about the identity of this debutant producer, but while they fret over such issues the rest of us will be getting down to this impeccable selection of deep grooving wares. this is razor sharp club music surely crafted by someone with experience, as the muscular thrust of track 1 suggests. there s a rugged charm in amongst the minimal disposition of the beats, which stands in contrast with the aqueous delights of track 2 or the housey funk of track 3. it s high grade dance music for djs and party people, plain and simple.

with the opening track -i see you-, silent riders offer up a brilliant pop diamond combining all elements of their distinctive sound palette. lu’s soulful voice bounces off almost funky drum machines, all drenched in layers of dark analog ambience. on the lush -copenhagen dream-, lu channels a sense of brit-pop nonchalance into a political song about the state of her city. in contrast, -being afraid- sees the band in their hardest grittiest mode - with lu reminiscent of pj harvey at her most moody and the slow groove behind her like a factory machine beating and releasing steam. other highlights include the chilling -static- and the ethereal beauty of closing track -falling- which sees the riders in their most relaxed and dreamy state, and echoes the works of portishead and massive attack. a stunning debut - limited vinyl release - don’t miss.

the 4th moment records installment brings us an intriguing collaboration between the labels owner, barac, and the french electronic composer lyonel bauchet.
stretching on over 12 minutes, buchla market unveils the symbiotic beauty born when these 2 creative energies collided in the studio: barac’s signature tension building percussion as the perfect high contrast background for lyonel’s buchla electronic symphonia pieces. flipping the record we find pavane, the uptempo version of this collaboration: wind like hisses lost in the crisp techno patterns, broken only by outworldly analog reverbs. moment 004 is a bridge between don buchlas electronic visions, started over 50 years ago and what electronic music has transformed into in our times.

it took 2 years to finally release these reworks for the debut album by philogresz. taped wall of sound kinda drift from the cyclist aka buz ludzha complemented by zk bucket s straight on moody jam gives the ep a strained contrast. not to mention peak time euphoric philogresz remake of his own asakusa that is dedicated to the japanese eels in that neighborhood. gazing cutsz!

if anything, stojche’s take on detroit inspired techno rarely requires your permission for engagement. the fifth installment of his own label, tangible assets, is no different. this singular producer always manages to conjure up otherworldly atmospheres that resonate from head to feet. with that said, we could spend the next three paragraphs throwing around adjectives and splashing colorful words all over this press release regarding his sound, the aesthetic within each track in this release, and we could even volunteer a side helping of words that somehow make sense of this young producers studio ability. one thing however is for certain. tang005’s true charm lies in its ability to capture an honesty and sincerity that’s as captivating as it is transcendent. there’s a clinical yet organic approach that stojche adopts time and time again in formulating his tangible asset releases, and if anything, tang005 should provide further evidence of his depth, maturity and innate ability to create enchantment. this record is wrapped in captivating moments born from flourishing stabs, twilight synths, rolling charges of calculated manic rhythms and subatomic motions living within a range of intricately programmed beats. add to that a host of cinematic sweeps that develop into harmonic clouds of melancholy and you’re one step closer to the true romance etched within the grooves of this record. once again, stojche has created an ep that catalyses imagination. a series of intense voyages with thoughtfully considered moments and movements that have been executed by a man well in tune with his craft.

for over five years, all day i dream has been where deep and emotive meet house music. propelled by a community of forward thinking artists drawn around the scion of master curator and sunset/sunrise set specialist, lee burridge. all day i dream formally welcomes lost desert to the label with the release of lingala, a two-track collaborative effort with burridge himself, that also features junior on vocals. lost desert was picked out of obscurity after burridge discovered his music while trekking in a remote area of a long lost land. a fast forged friendship inevitably lead to the studio, and lingala’s the enrapturing sophomore result. the duo’s first project together debuted on lee’s night time imprint, get weird, earlier this year to widespread support. lingala, is a beautifully composed ten-minute sonic journey. built around a mystical lead vocal sung by newcomer junior in his native linagles the raw emotion slowly builds in intensity over propulsive basslines and deep melodic grooves . gorje hewek & izhevski’s interpretation of lingala is a markedly different affair. focussing on musical layers rather than the vocal the duo’s signature spacey atmospheres and minimal rhythmic percussion add extra strings creating uplifting moments that contrast the original’s mood.

for their third delicacies 12inch this year, smd take a deeper, more spaced out approach, in contrast to the strict techno of the previous two releases. far away from a distance features hypnotic synth washes that glide slowly in and out of time with the track s rhythmic bed, stumbling over each other in a 5am haze. -flying or falling- pushes into classic smd melodies, mournful detroit indebted warmth spilling over the groove.

the grooves of thomas white and pete williams aka natural rhythm, have been a mainstay in the sets of robsoul boss phil weeks for more than a decade. today he pays ‘tribute’ with a special re-release of some of his favourites. born in a garage in the late 90’s, natural rhythm was a meeting of passionate musical minds. working together the pair sought to create their own style and sound, influenced by the tracks they were regularly spinning in their own dj sets across the country. creative sampling and their own raw beats, together with live instrumentation and regular guest vocalists, saw natural rhythm create a strong catalogue that, as we know, are still getting played today. with three albums and over 35 ep/single releases to their name, there more than enough music for label boss weeks to select from for the tribute ep. a tough job? of course. however, phil went straight for the four that never leave his box. leading the ep are the sun-drenched vocal vibes of ‘something big’, the title track of natural rhythm’s 1999 release on under the counter. our a2 is the lead track from 2001’s last call at the martini ranch ep, ‘chicago nights’, with its quaking bassline and disco dalliance. on the flip we’re treated to a choice selection from natural rhythm’s 1999 double album contrast in nature. first up with its celestial chimes and thumping kick is ‘smoldering island’, taken from the original part 1. closing the tribute release and taken from part 2 is the devilishly funky and suitably titled feelgood jam ‘energized’. we definitely are!

maria an organic piano-laden house track with a moody, ominous, misleading filtered start which flourishes into a feel-good house track with compelling whispering vocals and layered chords. got the taste zones in on the relentless groove with breathless vocal stabs and unforgiving deepness which conforms to a simplistic affable approach. rounding up the ep is maria remixed by berlin based producer beaner the la mission label head serves up a trippy off kilter-creation with a clever contrast to the original.

this up and coming producer is already a legend amongst the crew of techno freaks in brooklyn. with previous releases on local imprint lovers rock, and releases slated for proibito and exotic dance under the the aliases dj python and dj xanax, dj wey aka brian pinyero has contributed a massive 12” to bank records. the a side “song for masahiro” is dedicated to masahiro ueda, a dj and friend who graced the bk scene by way of japan. it’s a bass heavy tune with melodic pads floating in the forefront amongst the occasional cheering sample. it s perfect for either opening or closing a set midsummer. in contrast, the b side opens with “flow on.” with its distorted kicks, relentless claps and hypnotic bells one could imagine hearing it on a nightmarish carnival ride...fit that into a set. the record ends on an electro tip with spaced out pads, backwards samples and classic electro style drum patterns. distinct in sound and diverse in approach, don t sleep on the homie dj wey.

aus music ready a double vinyl remix package from cassys debut album, donna which came out in june 2016. with donna we hear a more personal side of cassy. co-produced by her soul brother king britt, cassy reconnects with her vocal talentwriting lyrics and singing on all tracks but one, making the album an intimate journey from the soul. cassy has en-listed some of her most respected peers, all of whom have put their own stamp on the original tracks. this makes the remix package the perfect contrast to the album, and also proves that cassys original music has the seal of approval from some of the finest house and techno heavyweights on the circuit today. marcel dettmann adds an endearing edge to move move, whilst ron bacardi picks up an undeniable pace on all i do. feel is taken on a cosmic journey with onsulade’s yoruba, and radio slave gives keep trying the remix treatment twice. finally keep trying is reworked on by friend & collaborator, djulz, julz takes takes things down a subtle, dubbier route with his edit, keeping cassys vocals a staple throughout.

born in sao paulo to a deeply religious family, laercio has been around music all his life - amidst the challenges of daily life, his adventist parents would whip out all sorts of instruments whenever the situation would allow it, introducing a young and curious mind to a wide range of musical expressions. it should come as no surprise, then, that our hero quickly felt at home with notes and bars, choosing the flute as his first weapon of choice which he eagerly studied from the age of seven. even later non-musical career choices always reflected an infatuation with the world of sounds, like his stint as a capoeira teacher, combining martial arts, acrobatics and dance. with such a multi-faceted background in music, the inevitable tinkering with synthesizers and other means of electronic sound generation was rather a question of time than one of ambition, and sure enough we find laercio roaming the parties of the mid-noughties, absorbing the unique melange of styles and scales that inform club culture to this day. in stark contrast to most other rave inductees at the time, however, he never wanted to become a dj: his area of expertise is the performance, not the collecting and curating of other people s releases, and it shows in the unusual fact that laercio has held club residencies as a live electronic musician in venues like sao paulo s the edge without ever so much as touching a record. in these release l_cio has worked with d.o.c. mastermind gui boratto. and the result is music for the dancefloor.

the music here is very much in the spirit of the label s kosmische/space berlin-school agenda, both reflecting his earlier work and exploring new territory simultaneously. lush orchestrations and beautiful synth pads contrast against hypnotic rhythms and delicate melodies, and while the label s mission might be -electronic listening music- tracks like red bird and mistral are surely dj material too.

since fabrikate first emerged with a remix of the weeknd’s often in 2014, the duo has showcased a variety of influences on productions ranging from traditional deep house to sounds reminiscent of the l.a. bass house scene. despite rising success, fabrikate retain their anonymity, hidden behind minimalist masks when on stage or behind the camera. in contrast to the vibrant aesthetic that permeates their overall image, the duo remains stoic and silent, taking a shadowy step into the background so their music can truly take centre stage.

redredred from muenster (germany) is coming to tell a story with his debut ep. shifts between deep rough techno tracks, warm house tunes and ambient pieces like a master. still, other musical influences are present as well. significant here is his distinct sound design. constantly revealing new elements almost like a nightly walk through an empty city under a foggy blanket. this ep is more than a travel companion as it delivers tracks that are definitely suitable for a club.

ep number four of this series of eight remastered tracks with remix-tributes to the techno legend christian morgenstern is here, and kicks off with d_funcs remix of steigreider on side a. creating a warm grayscale atmosphere, the track is carried by a heavy sub kick groove thats saturated with the modern industrial energy that proves kowalski’s skills as a techno craftsman. as a contrast, jeroen searchs remix of aces high on b1 is a more minimal interpretation, carried by a slowly developing beat and playing skillfully with the most recognisable elements of the original. the final track, a remastered version of morgensterns lydia to the edge of panic is a timeless classic, painting a morgenstern-typical distant and dream like landscape and opening up into a widescreen chord progression, with an epic build up.

unrelated is back with black as night ep by vesàlio ( kapvt mvndi ) side project of livio improta, vesàlio was born from the necessity to change something in his way of producing. less rhythm section and more emphasis on the atmosphere and field recordings, the last one the essential part of this project. a1 - in “n at alba- the concept of vesàlio is pure,clear, and deep , where the atmosphere is the main character of the track. a2 - -black as night” probably is the conflict between the two artistical parts, dark and despondent sounds, in contrast with the rthythm of the drum section. the perfect sound for a science fiction movie, totally mysterious ! b - o.xander (nous disques) decided to solve it bringing back the track into a classic raw theme with his antartica reshape

the second release in this series starts with the heavily supressed and hypnotic energy of efdemin’s spiegelkerker remix on side a. creating a dreamlike atmosphere, the track is carried by a slowly developing beat that keeps you totally engaged as it floats along. as a contrast, psyk’s remix of miscellanous pt.7 on b1, with its classic 909 drum appeal and engrossed pad harmonies, creates a very deep classical vibe worthy of a black dog reference. the final track, a remastered version of morgenstern’s return of the living deaf presents its pleasantly over-funked snare programming and build-ups that forge “true techno” eclecticism and dance floor functionality into one mighty laser sword of a track. limited to 300 copies

finale sessions is excited to have another parisian on our superb roster and janeret is not one to sleep on that s for sure. so we are getting right to the music with the first track midnight soul one of my favorites for sure with its beautiful keys and its rich pads and it s enormous bass this track is a latenight beater for sure. track two-contrast-is more on the techier side of things with more pads and a think basline no question a floor pumper it also has really nice drums to flavor that nice vocal. track three subdub this track is more for the dub techno crowd for sure with its super deep chords and its deep sub ambiance sound track four ehtereal electro madness is i am going to say

good things come to those who wait. the long-anticipated land of light debut, a masterpiece of an album and pillar of the esp institute, was unveiled in late 2012, slowly followed by the gorgeous remixed ii. since then, many have longed for the missing first half of this two-part package, the universe is kind and has finally delivered remixed i. on side a, kuniyuki takahashi (mastering engineer behind seminal esp releases, and legend in his own right) took the bull by the horns remixing flares—a piece of music so entrenched in melancholy, with such fluid performance and production, its hard to imagine anyone taking it deeper—he has unarguably triumphed. on side b, esp institute veterans tambien rose to the same challenge with flares, the bavarians taking a refreshing uptempo approach, a contrast to the swells of guitar and synth. closing the release is the seahawks blissful re-imagination of bell rock outpost, slowly and steadily setting sail into a dusky vision of the scottish lighthouse after which the song was named.

radio slave, spencer parker and mr. ties return under their b.a.d.s moniker with remixes of last years iconic hous-o-matik hom-o-patik release. b.a.d.s. is an acronym of berlin amateur dramatics society, the project was established by edwards, parker and de nittis for the original release in tribute to berlins homopatik party, the monthly event series helmed by mr. ties himself. in the house of ties remix a syncopated breakdown erupts into a frenzy of rumbling kicks, infectious vox and montefioris charismatic saxophone. in contrast, parkers reinterpretation is more mesmerising in nature with echoing stabs, reverberating vocals and eerie organ chords.

ever find yourself on a long escalator in a train station? an undistinguishable robot voice is coming from the intercom. you move effortlessly on this machine, yet you do not understand the sounds coming towards you. this is the essence of vestibule. followed by the ecstatic rhythms on rising, these two make a colorful a side in contrast to the black and grey of solpara’s previous releases. the b side features two remixes, one by the prolific lestasi delloro and the other by the newest member of the booma roster: belgium lights. lestasi delloro questions the four to the floor pattern of the original track and pops it upside down, like the negative of a photograph, giving it an unexptected bounce with marvelously swung hi hats. belgium lights takes a deeper approach to the remix and stretches it out to almost 9 minutes, pulling us down the escalator, at a faster pace and through a darker tunnel.
